Teresa, Joe Giudice Face 55 Years in Jail on Fraud Charges

Teresa Giudice, reality star of Bravo's "Real Housewives of New Jersey," could face up to 55 years in prison. Teresa and her husband Joe Giudice, who live in Montville Township in New Jersey, were indicted on 39 counts of tax, mail, and wire fraud charges on Monday. Newark federal prosecutors are alleging that Teresa hid how much she made from her "Real Housewives" gig along with website sales and appearances.

The New York Post reports that Teresa and Joe Giudice are being charged by prosecutors of cheating four banks out of over $4.5 million in mortgages using fake tax forms between 2001 and 2008. The scheming allegedly began in 2001 when Teresa got a $121,500 mortgage after she falsely claimed that she had a $45,000 a year job as an executive assistant position. The scheme went on for years, with Teresa allegedly using fake W-2 forms and pay stubs for jobs that didn't exist.

Teresa and Joe filed for bankruptcy in October of 2009 after the first season of “Real Housewives.” The New York Daily News reports that Teresa and Joe are also being accused of hiding how much money they were making in their bankruptcy filing.
